HOW WE STARTED
We know how frustrating it can be to navigate special education while trying to do what is best for your child. Our family has been through that frustration. It took us a long time to learn the process, understand the paperwork, and figure out which questions to ask.
That experience is why we created Gather It. We wanted to turn what we learned into practical help for other parents as they work to understand their student’s needs, prepare for meetings, and keep track of what comes next.
We designed this program to help you wherever you are in your journey: just getting started, navigating the school years, preparing for transition to life after high school, or anywhere in between. Every family’s path is different. Our purpose is to help parents feel more informed, organized, and prepared for the next step.
Our founder’s experience as a first responder also helped shape Gather It’s practical focus on preparation, clear information, finding resources, and following through. That perspective complements what our family learned as parents.
BUILT FROM EXPERIENCE
As we worked through our own process, we needed to keep records together, understand what they meant, prepare for meetings, and follow up afterward. Those needs helped shape the areas of Gather It for gathering information, understanding the record, preparing, tracking progress, and planning for transition.
The Knowledge Library grew from the time we spent learning the process and making sense of unfamiliar information. We wanted other parents to have a place to explore explanations, questions, and source material as they learn what applies to their family. Explore the Knowledge Library and understanding tools
Community Support reflects another part of that journey: finding help beyond the school paperwork. Supporting a student can also mean finding providers, organizations, services, and activities that fit the family’s needs. We built this area to help parents explore that wider circle of support. Each area comes back to the same purpose: turn what we learned into practical help for parents, wherever they are in their journey.
